WHAT THIS IS

A high-resolution digital portrait of Mikao Usui, recreated using AI and refined through hours of manual paintover. This isn’t a historical reconstruction. It’s an attempt to make the image feel human again and something you can actually look into, not just look at.

WHY THIS EXISTS

Most images of Usui are black-and-white. They feel distant. Flat. Removed. I wanted to see him as a person. I used AI as a starting point, then manually painted over the image in Photoshop — refining it layer by layer. At a certain point, it stopped feeling like a photograph. It felt like a presence.
